Decoration 224: lokaal 224 is the room in which classics is taught in the school where I work. While in Florence, I had the opportunity to make a design for this room, in which I tried to reflect what classics in high school are about. The design is a maze-like collection of classical images, to show how classical education does not want to give clear answers, but likes to turn things upside down, and give students new paths and interests to discover. I have tried to give a broad definition of the classics, ranging from the most famous classical forms (like the Colosseum and a Greek temple), to references to daily life, Etruscans, Renaissance, weaving and poetic symbolism.
