I have tried with this self-portrait to express my ambiguous relationship to classical studies, which on the one hand I want to satirize for being a pedantic male-centered claim to authority and power, while on the other hand I feel deeply connected to those 'classics' (or what people have made them to be).
Moreover, I am attracted to that that very same power in classical studies that I criticize. After all this is me, my books and my favourite works of art. Was it really satyrical to put myself in this position, or is it actually how I want to be represented?
